ICA - GENERAL INFORMATION

Very close to Lima, passing through one of the most impressive deserts of the Peruvian coast, stands ICA, a peaceful and colorful place, with warm-hearted and nice people. it has beaches of white sand, a variety in marine fauna, museums, and excellent places to visit. The Plaza de Armas and the surroundings, the historical Huacachina lagoon, ideal to go on a boat journey and appreciate the scenery. The giant sand dunes are another interesting appeal of the place. There, one can SURF and go on a tour full of adrenalin in dune buggies.
Ica is the traditional place of Peru recognized for its good pisco and wine cellars; you cannot miss visiting it and knowing the preparation process.

The local gastronomy of Ica is varied and delicious. Amond the dishes that stand out the most, there are the turtle soup and the carapulcra (stew of pork and dehydrated potatoes). Its sweets also are delicious; among them, the tuiles and traditional cookies.

APPEALS

The international festival of grape harvest is the most important event of Ica, and one of the most significant festivities on the national territory. It takes place from the 5th to the 14th of March.

It is in the city center. From there, one can have a view of the cathedral and the surroundings.

Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins Regional Museum
This is a must if you do not want to miss all the discoveries of the Paracas, Nazca, Ica, Huari and Inca civilizations. Moreover, there are many canvases and furnitures of the republican period.

Casona of the Marquis de Torre Hermosa
This is a sample of the viceregal architecture in the city. Bolívar stayed there when he was passing through the city.

Village of Cachiche
This is a group of house of the colonial period. It is famous for its much-touted healers, who are said to cure "pains and harms". Here, one can see the seven heads palm tree, popular name given to this palm tree from the trunk of which six more palm trees come out.

Laguna de Huacachina
In an oasis in the middle of the desert there is a mirror of water surrounded by vegetation and a beautiful scenery. It is possible to go on a boat journey on its waters.

BEACHES

Area of beautiful beaches, ideal to fish and practice underwater fishing.

GASTRONOMY

Along the valley of Ica, the grapevine is cultivated, the one which is processed and turned into piscos and wines in wine cellars situated in the same place. There are 85 wine cellars that still keep the traditional implements used in the distillation of the national liquor.

The pisco is prepared in a traditional way, using stills made in the colonial period. In the valley of Ica, there are more than 85 traditional wine cellars, ammong which the Catador wine cellar.
